Doing a preview presentation going wrong
By Rob Litjens
Last weekend I did not post any new content to my blog nor to my linkedin profile. Reason was that I was preparing myself for a preview presentation I had today. Also, it is silly season as they call it, and there were some work requirements I needed to look at. Next to that, I am also following classes on Microsoft Fabric. I want to be prepared in Oslo, where I am speaking at September 2nd.
I wanted to add content regarding Azure, but that did not work out completely well. I ended up by just not doing that in this presentation. I might be looking into that for the real presentation, but it should just work out well.
Last week I prepared the presentation while I was in the neighborhood of my work. I was there with my RV…. Three days at the office cost a lot of patience sometime. Creating a new presentation during the evenings. During those days I also needed to do a presentation on MFA for Devops team and how we as a team can show how management can use our data to push their teams. MFA for devops is something that must be requested by the Application/Devops teams.
Back to today. I organized a Knowledge session (this fits in Devops/Agile/S@S way of working) for our area team. That means we as a MSSQL on premise team, Azure team and also the SDI team were invited. I was happy to find around 20 people in the meeting, most of them of the Azure team and the SQL team.
My presentation was all except smooth. The preparation during the day was not optimal. I forgot, up till half an hour upfront of the meeting, to test the connection to my private pc to do the presentation. During that I found that having a work laptop open and a desktop for the presentation, means:
– Close one of the camera’s
– Shut down any other mic or speaker
– Make sure all apps needed are opened
Putting that aside I also should make a few other notes:
– Make sure you have the database up to par with the right content
– You have tested the scripts more than once
– You have fixed them to work independent
– You put in the right notes under the supporting powerpoint
– Look at the presentation itself.. (looking back a remark from one of the viewers is quite true)
So, taking these things into my mind, next week the presentation about Data API builder should be:
– Organized
– Smooth
– Complete
– Fun
Lets see if we can do that next week. Should be more fun!!!
Thank you Murphy
