T-SQL Tuesday 169 – Thank you all!
This months invitation for T-SQL tuesday came from Kay Sauter (B | L | T) .
The original invite can be found here.
Kay knows a lot of all data related stuff. So he wondered to whom I would be gratefull about last year. Despite the knowledge on Data, his invitation is about who we should thank… Wow.. That is a lot, only looking back one year…
Last year
My year is a turbulent year. Reason is that I really made a start with talking and more active blogging. For this I keep some people a bit or a byte responsible.
I made some attempts to get up to speed on blogging a few years ago. Only covid broke the speed I gained. During that period I was not doing nothing, I was active with volunteering at various Data events.
But, like said, I restarted this year. It happened by a magical post from Gethyn Ellis. He was inviting people in how to become a speaker. It was a different approach compared to New Stars of Data. The way how Gethyn handled this is awesome. He starts with the setup of a story and outlines he used to start with Blogging and writing abstracts. For me the result was some help on writing the attention generating abstract and setting up some basic slides.
But then… when you have the abstract and some parts of the presentation, you still need to be involved in some of these talks. I dropped the session on Sessionize and improved the presentation. At that time a few options were offered: One at the Engineersweek at my work and the other one for a usergroup York.
The Rabo Engineersweek (organised by Chris Stapper (L), Marjolein Humme (L) and Britt Staal (L) was orginised in April. This is my first public (despite via Teams) speaking. I have written about that here.
The next in line is DataYork. That was exciting. It was the first one outside of the bank. The evening was organised by Marci Gminski, Chris Williams and Graham Cook. It was an excellent option. The story from york is written in this blog Just before this event, I got a request to come and speak in Oslo. Another one which popped up was for User group Denmark and Data Tobogan. I just could not say no. All these events were awesome.
I learned a lot from Johan Ludvig Brattas, Brian Bonk Ruelokke, Andy Cutler, Victoria Holt and many many more. And Reitse Eskens for having me in Groningen. Also you Kay for having me at DataBash.
Sessions
My sessions for this year:
- Defender for SQL as part of your defense in Depth strategy
- Data API Builder (Open up your database by)
- Fabric for dummies(©)
Other years
Of course, next to all the things that happened last year, there is also something like long term retention. Looking at this I do want to thank a lot of people like Marijke my wife, Kevin Chant, Kay, Gethyn and all others from the Pod for the chats and of course, without any doubt, Binck my BMD.
A group of persons I cannot thank enough is @Microsoft, for all the support they give and for keeping me busy since 1996….
As you can see… to many people to thank for this year.
THANK YOU!!!
